If I was on this boat I would probably have panicked!!
Imagine you are a tourist enjoying a nice boat outing on a lovely day in the clear blue waters of the ocean. The light waves suddenly become a little stronger as a you gaze casually over the side of your boat and see the curious gaze of a 50 ton whale that is eyeing you and your miniscule boat, all alone out in the middle of the ocean.
Wildlife and nature photographer Justin Hofman is used to witnessing and photographing awe-inpiring moments in nature from around the world, but this confrontation between an enormous whale and her calves with this tiny boat is completely mind-boggling was probably more than a little terrifying for the unsuspecting tourists in the tiny vessel, or at least it would have been for me. The deep sea visitor is a 50 ton baleen whale and her calves who just decided to stop by for a short visit.
You can get some idea of the massive size of this animal is comparison to her large calf. "To put it in perspective, 50 tons is about the same as 30 Chevy Malibus..."
Here the fearless photographer comes face to face with the incredibly large whale. "Justin said the whale seemed intent on making friends more than anything."
Now these three huge creatures are on their way to investigate some unsuspecting tourists on a pleasure cruise in their tiny boat...
Here they are now, sailing peacefully on the calm ocean waters on a perfect summer day. But what is that dark shadow below them?!
One of the largest mammals in the world getting an up-close view to check out one of the smallest ocean vessels ever! I would have been totally panicked. Lucky this curious whale was in an extremely friendly mood!
