Why are schools 6 hours long?

Usually most of the schools run for 5-6 hours, the reason being, there are many subjects which are taught in schools, like maths, science, history, geography etc. And required more time or hours to complete the whole syllabus. I believe this is the main reason of 6 hours long school timings.
